PORTLAND, Ore.---Five Pilots from the men's and women's track and field teams nabbed individual wins at the L&C Spring Break Open held at Griswold Stadium on Saturday.
Â
Riley Osen secured first place overall in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:44.52, and Eliason Kabasenche took second in the event in 9:15.32.
Â
Cathal Doyle marked his return in the 1500 meter run with a victory time of 3:45.31, and the Portland men claimed the top four finishes in the race. George Duggan collected second with a new personal best of 3:46.06, Jacob Klemz PRed for third in 3:48.86, and Bradley Peloquin earned a personal record of 3:50.59 to finish in fourth.
Â
Matt Strangio strode into first in the men's 800 meter run, clocking in with a time of 1:51.99. Chris Morzenti's 1:52.79 was good for second overall on the day.
Â
"That was a great way to start the outdoor season, we had some really impressive performances," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "Riley Osen is going to be a player this season, he was only a couple seconds off his PR in a solo effort. Doyler ripped a :54 last lap and George was right with him in the 1500. And Matt and Chris both looked really strong in the 800."
Â
"All the way down the line, everyone ran smart and strong," said Conner. "It was a very good day."
Â
On the women's side, Emma Jenkins garnered an individual win in her debut in the 1500 meter event, coming in at 4:30.63. Veerle Bakker notched second-place in the race with a time of 4:31.81.
Â
Tara Fuiten won the women's 400 meter dash in 58.40, Ella Parker registered a new PR of 58.82 for second, and Avery Gill took third after crossing the line at 59.03.
Â
"We had a lot of good performances today but Emma Jenkins really impressed me," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "She had an amazing race to win the 1500, with a 64 second last lap. Tara Fuiten also looked really strong winning the 400."
Â
The Pilots have a week off from competition before gearing up for the Stanford Invitational and Hayward Premiere meets on Friday, April 1, ahead of the NW Distance Jamboree set for Saturday, April 2.
