SAN MATEO, Calif.. – For the third straight season, Portland Pilots forward Alex Fowler has been named to the All-WCC First Team. Guard Haylee Andrews was also named to the All-WCC Second Team and Lucy Cochrane earned All-WCC Honorable Mention.
Fowler becomes just the third Pilot to be named to the All-WCC First Team three times in her career. She is the first since Laiken Dollente did so in 2010 and the first since Kristin Hepton in 1999 to do so in three consecutive years. Fowler averaged an impressive 17.6 points per game on 55.9% shooting and also averaged 7.8 rebounds per contest. Her scoring and rebounding averages both ranked fourth in the WCC while her field-goal percentage was first.
The Townsville, Australia native also made significant movement up the career charts for the Pilots. Fowler became just the sixth Pilot to ever score 1,500 points in her career and the fifth among Pilots who only played NCAA Division I basketball. Fowler also moved to 10
th all-time in rebounds at 666. She has a chance to break into the top five among all Pilots in scoring at the WCC Tournament.
Despite missing nine games due to a knee injury, Andrews shined for most of the season. She led the WCC in assists per game at 5.7 and still finished seventh in total assists at 102. She also averaged 11.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She won WCC Player of the Week earlier this season on Dec. 20 after nearly posting a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists against the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks. She also moved up to fourth all-time in program history in assists and eighth all-time in scoring.
Cochrane was one of the most fearsome defenders in the country this season. She averaged a nation-leading four blocks a game and posted 100 total blocks on the season. Her 100 blocks set the school record for most in a season. She swatted away nine shots in a game twice this season, which the Pilots hadn't done as a team since 2015. Cochrane averaged 8.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest as well.
The Pilots finished the regular season fourth in the WCC per Ken Pomeroy's Adjusted Winning Percentage formula, earning the double-bye straight into the quarterfinals of the WCC Tournament, which runs from March 3 to March 8. The Pilots will play either the Saint Mary's Gaels, the Pepperdine Waves or the Loyola Marymount Lions on Saturday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats or video links as they become available.
