SAN MATEO, Calif. – Pilot rowing team captain Maddie Olson and first varsity eight stroke Catherine Watson were named to the 2022 All-WCC Preseason Rowing Team. The Pilots were also tied for fourth in the 2022 WCC Preseason Coaches Poll with the Loyola Marymount Lions.
This is the second season that Olson has been named to the preseason team, doing so last season. Olson rowed with the first varsity eight last season and has been with the top flight for the Pilots.
Watson also has played a critical role for the Pilots, serving as the stroke for the first varsity eight. She has done so for the Pilots in every race this season.
Gonzaga was picked to repeat as WCC Champions, finishing first in the poll with 36 points and six first-place votes. San Diego was the only other team to earn a first-place vote, finishing with 31 points. Creighton was the only other squad picked ahead of Portland and LMU at 23 points, with Portland and LMU earning 20 points each. Saint Mary's was picked sixth with 10 points and Santa Clara brings up the rear at seven points.
The Pilots are well into the 2022 spring season, putting up strong performances in all three events they've competed in. Next up, they're hosting their first and only home meet of the season on Saturday, April 16 when they welcome Saint Mary's and Seattle U to Vancouver Lake.
