ABOUT THE PILOTS
• The Pilots are 20-15 on the season after dropping their weekend series to the No. 14 Gonzaga Bulldogs and narrowly losing to the No. 20 Oregon Ducks on Tuesday 5-4.
• Their series opener on Thursday was postponed in the bottom of the eighth due to inclement weather, with Gonzaga hitting a two-run homer in the resumption to take the win. Portland's ninth-inning win in Game 2 was their first win over a ranked opponent this year.
• This is the fourth time in six full seasons the Pilots have earned 20 wins with Geoff Loomis as their head coach.
• Portland scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn't find the elusive fifth run to tie the game. The loss gave Oregon the series for the year.
• Pitcher Brock Gillis put together his best start as a Pilot last Saturday, pitching a season-high six innings with only one run and three hits allowed. He gave up no hits through the first five innings.
• Brock's brother, Brett Gillis, was also solid in his start, going five innings with three hits and two runs allowed and seven strikeouts. He's had seven strikeouts in more in all nine appearances this season.
• Brett's 1.77 ERA is third in the WCC and 17th nationally. He is also 19th in the nation and fifth in the WCC in strikeouts (74), third conference-wise in WHIP (1.07) and seventh in the conference in strikeouts per nine innings (11.89).
• Trace Tammaro doesn't qualify due to not playing 75% of the Pilots' games yet (he's at 74%), but he is leads the Pilots at the plate, batting .321 with an OPS of .983. He leads the Pilots in batting average, slugging percentage (.536) and on-base percentage (.447).
• In notable performances from the weekend, Christian Cooney went 2-for-4 last Sunday with a home run in his first appearance since last April. He injured his shoulder late into the 2021 season.
• The Pilots are currently second in fielding percentage (.976) and walks (149), third in WHIP (1.36), ERA (4.09) and WHIP (1.36) and fourth in on-base percentage (.359).

• Loomis is a Portland baseball alum and UP Athletics Hall of Fame member who still holds the UP program career record for batting average (.376).
