PORTLAND, Ore. -- The No. 23-ranked Loyola Marymount Lions beat the Portland Pilots by a 4-0 margin in a West Coast Conference women's tennis dual match Friday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Lions improve to 13-2 overall and 3-1 in WCC play, while the Pilots fall to 6-10 and 1-4 in league.
LMU grabbed the early lead with comfortable wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles position. Portland's No. 2 tandem of Iva Zelic and Angela Schuster were leading 4-3 when the point was clinched.
The Lions took the top three singles matches in straight sets to complete the sweep. Wikotria Rutkowska held off Neli Sunjic 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 and Eva Marie Voracek defeated Sally Pethybridge 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2.
In a battle on nationally-ranked players at the top of the lineup, No. 88 Veronika Miroshnichenko snapped No. 108 Iva Zelic's 12-match win streak with a 6-2 ,7-5 decision.
The bottom three singles all completed one set before the match was concluded.
Portland will face another tough test in the team's final home match of the season on Saturday as the No. 6 Pepperdine Waves visit. The match is set to start at 10 a.m. with live video and scoring available at
