PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 6 Pepperdine Waves remained unbeaten in West Coast Conference play with a 7-0 win over Portland Saturday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Waves improve to 17-4 overall and 6-0 in WCC play, while the Pilots drop to 6-11 and 1-5 in league.
Portland recognized graduating seniors Marija Elenova and Angela Schuster prior to the match as part of Senior Day.
The Waves, who placed second at the 2021 NCAA Team Championships, showed why they are perennial national title contenders. Pepperdine's singles lineup against the Pilots are all ranked in the top 100 nationally.
The Waves opened the scoring by taking the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. Portland's No. 3 doubles tandem of Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Jana Tanevska were trailing Victoria Flores and Nikki Redelijk 3-2 when the point was clinched.
Pepperdine won all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the team scoring. In a battle of ranked opponents at the top of the lineup, No. 11 Shiori Fukuda defeated No. 108 Iva Zelic 6-2, 6-1.
The Pilots continue WCC play with a pair of road matches next weekend. Portland visits Saint Mary's on Friday at 2 p.m. and then takes on Pacific Saturday at 11 a.m. The regular season concludes at Gonzaga on Saturday, April 23.
