June 23, 2022 marks the official 50th anniversary of Title IX. This important law, passed in the summer of 1972, prohibits discrimination based on sex or gender in any educational program or activity that receives federal funding. While Title IX was originally geared towards providing women enrollment opportunities in higher education, one of the most visible impacts of the law has been in athletics, where an increasing number of women and girls have had access to the educational, leadership, and professional development lessons learned through participation in sport.
University of Portland Senior Woman Administrator, Karen Peters, put together the project of recognizing 50 notable women and teams in Pilot history. See the linked
