SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland Pilots women's soccer goalkeeper Bre Norris has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2 after a stellar-two game stretch between the sticks. It's the first Player of the Week win for a Pilot this year and the second of Norris's career.
Norris guided the Pilots to two shutouts this past week against teams who made the NCAA Tournament. Portland tied the Washington State Cougars 0-0 in Pullman and beat the Montana Grizzlies 2-0 this past Sunday. Norris had seven saves against the Cougars and another eight against Montana, matching her career high.
The Boise, Idaho native has been stellar to start the year for Portland. She's helped the Pilots earn three shutouts in four games this season. The three shutouts are tied with LMU for the most in the WCC to start the season. Norris has 19 saves and a save percentage of .905 as well, with both totals ranking third in the WCC.
The Pilots are unbeaten in their first four games for the first time since 2013 with a 2-0-2 record. This week, they'll play the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. PT on the road before returning home for their showdown against Hawaii on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video.
