SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the second week in a row, the Portland Pilots men's soccer team has swept the WCC Men's Soccer Player of the Week awards, with Brandon Cambridge winning offensive player of the week and Delentz Pierre earning defensive player of the week.
It's the first time that any WCC team has swept the weekly awards two weeks in a row since the conference switched the format to recognize an offensive and defensive player each week. The sweep also means the Pilots have won four of six possible weekly awards this season.
Cambridge earned the nod after notching three goals and an assist this past week. He earned a brace and an assist against Seton Hall in a 3-1 win, becoming the first Pilot to score two goals or more in a game this season, and also scored against UCLA in a 2-0 shutout of the then No. 15/6 team in the nation. His seven points over two games was the most of any player in the WCC, with no player outside of the Pilots having totaled more than seven points on the season.
The Vancouver, B.C. native sits at four goals and two assists on the year, totaling 10 points in five games. He leads the WCC in both points and goals, ranking 14
th and 12
th nationally in those respective categories. He is the fastest Pilot to four goals (five games) since Benji Michel in 2018.
Pierre won the award after a dominant performance along the back line. He played 176 minutes across two games for the Pilots, helping Portland earn a shutout against UCLA. He also scored a goal against the Seton Hall Pirates, his first since the 2019 season. Pierre has started every match this season and has an assist along with his goal.
The Pilots were recently ranked 19
th in the latest TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 poll and are 3-0-2 to start the season. Next up, they are hitting the road to take on the Denver Pioneers in Colorado. The two teams play on Friday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
