Portland Head Coach Nick Carlin-Voigt on the win
"Great team win tonight. So proud of the entire program for battling through adversity against another top-25 nationally ranked team. We have played one of the hardest schedules in the country thus far and to come out of it unscathed is a credit to our players and staff. It was always going to be a tough turnaround after a fight at No. 10 Denver just three days prior. Credit to WVU as they are a good side who move the ball well and were PKs away last year from the Final Four. They asked some questions of us, no doubt, and I thought the guys got more settled once we figured out how close down the half channels actions.
We gave up an unfortunate goal early in the first five minutes and our guys didn't panic, regrouped and got back control of the game to score two important goals. We always say goals change games and we have confidence in our players to go make plays. We started to move the ball well after a poor start, but in any good game you are going to have to defend a lead and that's what was needed to manage the game. We will talk about ways to keep improving one game at a time. We now will get some much needed rest and as we prepare for a tough Bakersfield team on Merlo this Friday. We look forward to getting our fans and community supporters back to Merlo this Friday!"
