SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Both the men and the women Pilots had strong early-season performances, with the men finishing second and the women fifth at the Bill Dellinger Invitational.
Bradley Peloquin led the Pilots, finishing fourth (23:46.8). Bradley was followed by Nolan Hosbien in 12th (23:58.2), Ahmed Sado in 17th (24:04.5), Daniel Racle in 19th (24:09.2) and Henry Mong in 22nd (24:17.9) to round out the Pilot's scoring five. Other Pilot finishers included Justin Hazell in 30th (24:28.9), Chris Anderson in 40th (24:40.6), and Leo Donlea in 44th (24:45.2).
Head coach Rob Conner said he was, "Proud of the effort the guys gave today." He mentioned that, "Matt and Bradley were very comfortable, holding back early then finishing hard. Nolan was probably the race of the day for us. He showed a lot of confidence and strength moving up the entire race. It was a good team effort and something to build on, for sure."
Laura Pellicoro was the top finisher for the Pilots finishing in second overall in a time of 19:58.3. Mie Nielsen was the Pilots' second finisher in 19th (20:51.6), followed by Courtney Klatt in 22nd (20:55.9), Abby Lawrence in 23rd (20:58.1) and Sam Prusse finished in 45th (21:45.1) to round out the Pilot's scoring five. Teresa Perez in 60th (22:05.9) and Lauren Block in 70th (22:47.1) also ran as part of the Pilots' top-7.
Four of the men and six of the women who competed for Portland today ran personal best marks, which bodes well for the Pilot's seasons ahead. The men kept their spread between their first runner and their fifth runner down to 21.1 seconds, while the women kept their spread to 1 minute and 46.8 seconds.
The Pilots' next race will be on October 1st at the 47th Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore. Visit Portlandpilots.com for more information.
