SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the fourth week in a row, the Portland Pilots have had an athlete earn WCC Player of the Week honors, with forward CJ Tibbling earning offensive player of the week. He is the sixth Pilot to win this year, with the Pilots having won six of a possible 10 player of the week awards.
Tibbling won the honor after a historic game against the Utah Tech Trailblazers, scoring four goals with three of them in the second half. He is the first Pilot since 1999 to score at least four goals in a single match, with Connor Casey scoring five against Gonzaga. He is the only men's WCC player to score four goals in a match this season.
The stellar night upped Tibbling's season goal total to five, which is tied for first on the Pilots and for first in the WCC. The Pilots offensively have been on a tear, scoring 25 goals through their first nine games, which is the most they've scored since 1999. They lead the WCC in points (78), goals (25) and assists (28) and rank fourth, third and fourth nationally in each of those respective categories. The Pilots are the first team since Pacific in 2018 to also have a WCC Player of the Week winner four weeks in a row.
Portland begins conference play this week with a stellar 6-0-3 record, the only unbeaten team remaining in the WCC. They are unbeaten through their first nine games for the first time since 2018, and are poised to open conference play against the Saint Mary's Gaels this Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
