PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team opens the 2023 dual season with a home match against the UC Davis Aggies on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. Live video will be available of the match at PortlandPilots.com.
Head coach Filip Zivkovic returns four lineup players from last year, including Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge at the top of the lineup.
Zelic was nationally ranked last season – as high as No. 108 – and was nationally ranked in the fall preseason rankings at No. 110. A junior in eligibility, Zelic is expected to lead the Pilots at the No. 1 position.
Pethybridge played No. 2 singles as a true freshman last season and had a solid fall singles campaign. She finished with five wins while playing top competition.
Zelic and Pethybridge teamed up for a phenomenal doubles run in the fall. The duo finished 12-5 overall, reached the finals of the ITA Northwest Regionals and the Round of 16 at the ITA Fall National Championships.
Junior Rimona Rouf and sophomore Aleksandra Dimitrijevic were also regulars in the singles lineup as a last spring and expected to be significant contributors in 2023.
True freshmen Meagan Pearson, Alaia Rubio Perez and Kylie Canubida, as well as transfer Rose Watanabe, all made Pilot debuts in the fall and will compete for spots in the singles lineup this spring.
The Pilots were picked ninth in the WCC Preseason Poll.
