PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 victory over the UC Davis Aggies in the spring dual season opener for the Pilots at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

The Pilots secured the doubles point with wins at the top two positions to open the contest. Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge earned a 6-4 win at the top and then Rimona Rouf and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic clinched with a comeback win in a tiebreaker at No. 2.

The Aggies took the lead with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions, but Pilot freshman Alaia Rubio Perez cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles to tie the match at 2-2.

Zelic then outlasted Yana Gurevich 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 to give the Pilots a 3-2 edge.

Dimitrijevic clinched for Portland with an impressive 7-6, 6-2 win over Kristina Evloeva at No. 4.

Portland will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Washington with a 1 p.m. start.
