SEATTLE, Wash. – The Portland women's tennis team won the doubles point before falling to Washington 6-1 in women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Rimona Rouf and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic beat the No. 56-ranked doubles team in the country by a 6-3 margin at No. 2 doubles and then Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge clinched with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Pilots also started singles strong with Rimona Rouf taking the opening set at No. 3 singles, but the Huskies played solid thereafter and cruised to victories at all six singles positions.

"I think that we learned a lot about ourselves today," Portland head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "We played great doubles and trusted our preparation. I was very impressed with the way all three teams competed and trusted each other. We had a great start in singles and there was a moment where we felt that this could break either way. I must give credit to Washington as they were more composed and executed at a very high level in big moments and turned the tide their way. I am very proud of my players for the way they competed and the way they represented UP today. This match showed us that we are on the right course and that we are capable of competing against the best programs in the country."

Portland will be back in action at Oregon on Saturday with a noon start.
