EUGENE, Ore. – Portland freshman Alaia Rubio Perez pulled out a win at No. 6 singles for the Pilots in a 6-1 loss at Oregon on Saturday afternoon.
Rubio Perez knocked off Misaki Kobayashi 7-6, 6-2 to improve to 2-1 this spring and 12-4 overall this year in singles.
Oregon won the other five singles matches in straight sets and took the top two doubles matches to secure the opening point. Meagan Pearson and Rose Watanabe were tied 4-4 at No. 3 doubles when the point was secured.
The Pilots will now return home for a pair of matches next weekend at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. Portland hosts Nevada on Saturday at 10 a.m. and then Portland State on Sunday at 10 a.m. Both matches will have live video and scoring available at PortlandPilots.com.
