Pilots Earn Hard-Fought Win over Nevada

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team took a 5-2 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack as the Pilots came up with clutch play down the stretch. The Pilots improve to 2-0 at home and 2-2 overall this season, while the Wolf Pack falls to 3-3.

Portland took the early momentum by securing the doubles point. Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 1 and then Rimona Rouf and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic clinched with a 6-4 win at No. 2.

Nevada evened the score with a win at No. 3 singles before Pethybridge put the Pilots back on top with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Mariana Campino at No. 2.

The Wolf Pack again tied the match with Amahee Charrier outlasting Iva Zelic in three sets at No. 1 setting up the final three matches to determine the outcome. It would be all Pilots from there.

Freshman Alaia Rubio Perez cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win versus Audrey Moutama at No. 6 singles to improve to 3-1 this spring. Fellow freshman Meagan Pearson then clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Wiem Boubaker at No. 5.

Dimitrijevic closed the scoring with a 7-6, 6-4 win against Anastasia Luneva at No. 4.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Pilots who will host Portland State on Sunday at 10 a.m. Live video and scoring will be available at PortlandPilots.com.
