PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win against crosstown rival Portland State on Sunday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 3-0 at home and 3-2 overall this season, while the Vikings drop to 4-5.

Portland claimed the doubles point with convincing 6-2 wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Rimona Rouf improved to 4-1 this spring at No. 2 doubles, while Meagan Pearson and Rose Watanabe earned the victory at No. 3.

Sally Pethybridge doubled the team lead with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Capu Sanoner at No. 2 singles, followed shortly by a 6-4, 6-4 win from Iva Zelic at the top of the lineup.

Rouf then clinched the match with a thrilling 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 marathon win against Elizabeth Strongina at No. 3 singles.

Following Rouf's win, Portland's Aleksandra Dimitrijevic retired at No. 4 singles with a lingering injury, while the Pilots capped the scoring with freshmen Pearson and Alaia Rubio Perez picking up straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

"This was a great weekend of tennis for us," Portland head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "Nevada and Portland State are two very solid teams and it took some great discipline and resilience to get these two wins. I am extremely proud of the team; we competed the way I know this team is capable of and put ourselves in positions to be successful. I thought that we were also very brave today, pulling the trigger in the right moments and making the right plays when it mattered. Next week will be another great opportunity for us and I am excited to see us continue getting better with every opportunity."

Portland will next take the court at Idaho on February 18 and Eastern Washington on February 19.
