SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland Pilots forward Alex Fowler has been named the WCC Player of the Week for the first time this year. She is the first Pilot to earn the honor this season.
Fowler earned the honor after averaging 22 points, six rebounds and 5.5 assists over Portland's two wins this weekend. Fowler became one of just 19 players in NCAA Division I to put up multiple games with at least 20 points, five rebounds and five assists. She also became the third Pilot in Portland's Division I history to eclipse 1,800 points scored over the weekend.
The Townsville, Australia native has been dominant this season, averaging 17.5 points on 66.4% shooting along with 5.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals. Her field-goal percentage leads the WCC and ranks fifth nationally, and she also leads the conference in free throw attempts (87) and free throws made (70) as well as steals (27). She is also second in points per game and steals per game, third in total points (263) and fourth in field goals made (95).
Portland is 10-5 on the year, riding a five-game winning streak, their longest in three years. They are 4-0 in WCC play for the first time since the 1996-97 season. They'll be back at the Chiles Center this week for games against the Santa Clara Broncos and the San Francisco Dons.
