PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland dominated crosstown rival Portland State in a 7-0 dual match sweep on Saturday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Vikings drop to 0-3.

Portland secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Nicolas Ocana and Nikolas Tvedt won 6-2 at No. 2 and then Issa Yoshida and Cade Fernando clinched with a 6-1 victory at No. 3.

The Pilots cruised in singles action as Eleftherios Neos, and Nicolas Ocana won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3. Sema Pankin clinched the matche with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 comeback win over Andrea Brignacca at the top of the order.

The bottom of the UP order took care of business with Nikolas Tvedt winning in straight sets, Maxim Groysman pulling out a three-set super tiebreaker and Fabian Gusic cruising at the No. 6 position.

"Today was interesting," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "I think we did some little things that were not so great that made the matches run a little longer, but we also did some little things in competing that were pretty good to get us through a few close ones. Portland State played well and competed hard and played with nothing to lose. They definitely gave us challenges in several spots, which is good for us going into the middle part of the schedule. It was nice to see Fabian get his first win as a Pilot and also good to see Nik Tvedt bounce back after a tough one last weekend."

Portland will next be in action at No. 25 UCLA on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
