SAN MATEO, Calif. – After a record-breaking weekend, Portland Pilots forward Alex Fowler was named the WCC Player of the Week. It is the third time this year she's won the award.
Fowler won the award after averaging 18 points a game across two games, including 26 in Portland's win over the Pepperdine Waves. In a win against the LMU Lions, Fowler scored 10 points to become the Pilots' all-time leading scorer at the NCAA Division I level, sitting now at 1,954 career points.
Fowler has been one of the best players in the WCC this season. She currently leads the WCC in points per game (17.9), total points (393), field-goal percentage (61.8%), free throws attempted (141) and free throws made (97). She is also second in steals (39) and steals per game (1.77), third in field goals made (141) and seventh in both total assists (77) and assists per game (3.5). She is 12th nationally in field-goal percentage and is also one of eight players in NCAA Division I averaging at least 17.5 points, five rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.
The Pilots are 16-6 overall and are 10-1 in WCC play, good for second in the conference. Their 10 wins in conference through 11 games is their best through as many games since the 1996-97 season. They are leading the WCC in field-goal percentage (47.2%), assists per game (17.3), steals per game (9.6) and turnovers forced per game (16.7).
