PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots matched their program record for threes in a game with 15 on their way to an 81-71 victory over the Santa Clara Broncos.
The Pilots (11-5, 5-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Alex Fowler, who had 26 points, seven rebounds and a career-high four threes. Shearer added a career-high 20 points and Liana Kaitu'u chipped in as well with 10 points and a career-high six assists.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 11-8 advantage, Portland went on a 6-0 run with 4:59 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Keeley Frawley, to increase its lead to 17-8. The Pilots then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 25-21 advantage. Portland was automatic from outside, knocking down seven threes to account for 21 of its 25 points.
Santa Clara fought back to tie the game at 28-28 before Portland went on a 5-0 run starting at the 5:29 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Fowler, to take a 33-28 lead. The Pilots proceeded to tack on one point to that lead and enjoyed a 44-38 advantage heading into halftime. During the half, Portland set a program record for threes in a half with 11.
After intermission, Portland added to its advantage and owned a 63-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Portland knocked down three more 3-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 19 total points.
Portland kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run and eventually growing the lead to 80-66 with 30 seconds to go in the contest. The Broncos tried to claw their way back, but the Pilots cruised the rest of the way for the 81-71 win.

- Fowler's four threes are a career high for the forward.
- With 26 points, Fowler posted her second-highest point total of the season. It's her third straight game with 20 points or more.
- Shearer's 20 points are a career high. She best the career-best total she set earlier this season at 19.
