SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second time this season and second week in a row, Camille Ashe was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week.
Ashe earned the honor after anchoring Portland's defense in their 4-0 win over the Pacific Tigers in their WCC opener. Ashe played the full 90 minutes for the Pilots and guided a defense that allowed just five shots against them, all off target.
The Pilots defensively are one of the best teams in the country. They are currently riding a six-game shutout streak and have eight total shutouts on the year. Portland's two goals allowed are the fewest conceded in program history through just 10 matches and is also the fewest any team in the country has allowed. Their goals-against average of .200 and shutout percentage of .800 both lead the country, and their save percentage of .900 ranks fourth nationally and first in the conference.
Portland is 7-1-2 on the season and sits atop the WCC standings after their win over Pacific. Next up, they'll host the Gonzaga Bulldogs this Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. here at Merlo Field. Check PortlandPilots.com for tickets, live stats and video options.
