PORTLAND, Ore. --The Portland volleyball team lost in five sets (24-26, 26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 10-15) to the Santa Clara Broncos Saturday at home at Chiles Center. The loss dropped Portland's record to 8-15 overall and 3-8 in WCC play.
The Pilots offense was paced by Elin Larsson, who finished with a career-high 20 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .357, and by Maui Robins, who had 19 while hitting .378. Larsson also pitched in with five in the contest. Portland got 10 digs from Kili Robins along with six blocks from Lucia Busso and five rejections from Una Rajkovic to lead them defensively.

SET 1 | The Pilots lost the first set 26-24 in spite of a strong performance on the attacking end. Portland registered a .500 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set loss.
SET 2 | Portland evened the match at 1-1 after a 26-24 victory in set two. The Pilots took the set powered by a strong showing on the attacking side. Portland registered a .366 attack percentage with 19 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands three times, the Pilots took control for good at 25-24 and rode that advantage to victory.
SET 3 | Santa Clara grabbed a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Pilots in the third set. The Pilots dropped a tough set 25-17. Portland trailed by as many as eight points as Santa Clara grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up four times before the Broncos took over the lead.
SET 4 | Portland then responded to win set four 25-19 to force a fifth set. The Pilots scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Portland opened up as much as an eight point lead at 11-3 before closing out the stanza, collecting 15 kills along the way. Portland also supplemented their offense with six aces in the set.
SET 5 | Portland was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but dropping the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-10, to fall in the match. The Pilots dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead.
