PORTLAND, Ore. -- Taina Kaauwai notched 10 kills with a .529 hitting percentage, but the Portland volleyball team fell 3-2 (20-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-16, 7-15) to the Saint Mary's Gaels Saturday at home at Chiles Center. The loss dropped Portland's record to 8-19 overall and 3-12 in WCC action.
The Pilots were led by a double-double from Maui Robins, who registered 16 kills and 10 digs on the day. Elin Larsson also added 18 kills to help bolster Portland's offense. On the defensive end, Elena Bullemer chipped in for with 11 digs to go with four blocks from Kaauwai. Following the match, the Pilots honored seniors Kili Robins, Griselda Memia and graduate assistant, Talyn Jackson.

SET 1 | Despite an impressive serving effort, the Pilots dropped set one 25-20. Portland recorded six aces in the set loss.
SET 2 | Portland tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-14 victory in set two. The Pilots led from the opening point on in the set to earn the victory. Portland opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 11 points, to finish off the set. The Portland offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Portland dropped set three, putting the Pilots in a 2-1 hole. The Pilots lost the set 26-24 despite a strong performance on the attacking side. Portland registered a .368 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set loss.
SET 4 | Portland then responded to win the fourth set 25-16 to force a fifth set. The Pilots grabbed control of the set at 6-5 and never looked back. Portland led by as many as 10 points at 19-9 before closing out the stanza. Portland got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Saint Mary's attacks in the stanza.
SET 5 | Portland came up short in a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-7, to fall in the match. The Pilots fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way.
