SEATTLE, Wash. -- Matt Strangio and Fleur Templier were named the MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) male and female athletes of the week, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Templier was honored for setting a new PR of 9:21.14 for the 3,000 meter race distance at Boston University on Dec. 2, 2023. Her mark was significant both for cracking into the top-10 all-time at the University of Portland (No. 6 All-Time), but also because it established a new U-20 French national record for the distance. Templier's time would best the existing French U-20 record by over 8 seconds - a record held by Liv Westphal, a former All-American athlete for Boston University.
Strangio also had a successful weekend, resetting his existing Indoor 5,000 meter school record with a time of 13:31.92. Strangio's mark would break his existing record by nearly 8 seconds, and put himself within 5 seconds of the outdoor track school record held by Pilot Olympian and American Record Holder, Woody Kincaid. Strangio's time also ranks him 17th in the country for the 2023-24 indoor track season, and while early, places him on the bubble for indoor national qualifications (Top-16, after scratches).
The Pilots will return to the track for the UW Preview meet in Seattle, Wash on Jan. 13, 2024. For more coverage and info, visit PortlandPilots.com.
