The Pilots continued their outdoor track season this week at the Bryan Clay Invitational, L&C Larry Byerly Invitational, and Mt. SAC Relays with exciting results.
A total of five Portland athletes competed at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday night, all running the 10,000 meter. Mie Nielsen and Chris Anderson came away with new personal records, running 35:08.67 and 29:27.93, respectively.
The same night, at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Zak Kirk and Jonas Gertsen ran the ninth and tenth fastest 10,000 meter races in Pilot history with times 28:43.79 and 28:45.60.
The second day of competition was highlighted by excellent 800 meter performances from the men and the women. For the women, Teresa Perez won her heat in a new PR of 2:09.10, good for No. 6 All-Time at UP. For the men, Aidan Fitzgerald ran a new PR of 1:51.53 to win his heat. Additionally, Yutaka Roberts finished second in his heat with a new PR of 1:51.08.
The last day of competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational saw several impressive performances in the men's and women's 1500 meter. Laura Pellicoro runs 4:11.63, the second fastest time in school history. Matt Strangio ran just off his PR in 3:39.19, good for third in his heat. Estanis Ruiz took the win in heat nine with a time of 3:43.01, good for No. 9 All-time.
Back in Portland, a group of Pilots competed well in the 1500 meter and 400 meter competitions to capitalize on a big weekend of races. A total of six Pilots came away with PRs in the two events.
