PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Women's Soccer has added midfielder Bella Ballard to the class of 2023.
"Bella is a student-athlete that we have tracked for quite a while. Her passion for the game combined with her commitment and dedication to grow as a player will serve her well as she arrives on campus this summer," Portland associate head coach Logan Emory said. "In addition, Bella has demonstrated a strong desire to be an active member of the community and is an exceptional student. We are excited to have Bella as the latest addition to her class and can't wait to have her here on The Bluff."
Ballard comes to the Pilots by way of Honolulu, Hawaii. She has extensive experience at the club level, most recently playing with the Santa Clarita Blue Heat in the United Women's Soccer League. She has also played with West Coast FC, Corktown AFC and the LA Galaxy Girls Development Academy.
On top of her club experience, Ballard has also played at the national and regional level. She was with the United States Youth National Team Training Center from 2016-20 and was also a part of the Olympic Development Program in Hawaii from 2017-18. In 2018, she was named to the ODP Best XI. Ballard's mother, Angela Ballard, is also a WCC alum, having played from 1997-2000 at LMU.
The Pilots are coming off their strongest year since the 2013 season. In 2022, the Pilots posted a 12-5-4 record overall and a 5-4 record in WCC play, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nine years. The Pilots beat the Arizona State Sun Devils 3-0 for their largest tournament win since 2009 before falling to the No. 1 overall seed Alabama Crimson Tide 2-1 in the second round.
