Sacramento, Calif. – Cathal Doyle highlights Day 1 of competition by advancing to the quarterfinals of the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA West Preliminary hosted at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.
Doyle placed fourth in Heat 4 to earn a qualifying spot in Friday's 1,500-meter quarterfinals with a time of 3:41.58. The pace was relatively modest throughout much of the first few laps of the race before picking up the final 400 meter revolution. Similar to what he has done the last two years, Doyle stayed relaxed during the early phases of the race before switching gears in the last lap to secure his spot in the quarter-final round.
The Pilots's first day of competition concluded with the 10,000 meter run, which saw Zak Kirk and Danny Abdala finish 23rd (29:05.25) and 34th (29:30.86), respectively. Both athletes ran tough and outperformed their rankings prior to the championships.
Laura Pellicoro will compete in the first round of the women's 1500 meter run tomorrow, Thursday, May 25th at 6:30 P.M. The remainder of the week's schedule will be posted below.
