HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- The Portland volleyball team showed impressive resilience with a five set win over the Sam Houston Bearkats Saturday on the road at Johnson Coliseum. The out-of-conference win improved the Pilots' overall record to 2-1 on the season.
The Pilots were led by a double-double from Maui Robins, who registered 14 kills and 10 digs on the day. Lia Hawken also added 14 kills to help the attack.Robins also pitched in with five in the contest. On the defensive end, Kili Robins chipped in for with 19 digs to go with six blocks from Taina Kaauwai.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Pilots won the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-19. Portland led by eight points at 14-6 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills along the way.
SET 2 | Portland fell in set two 25-23 to tie the match 1-1. The Pilots couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Portland put the second-set loss behind and took a 2-1 match lead with a victory in the third set. The Pilots scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-10 victory. Portland ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 15 points, to close out the set. The Portland offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Portland couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Bearkats forced a fifth set with a 25-21 victory. The Pilots trailed by as many as six points as Sam Houston grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 and Portland was never able to recover in a set that was tied up eight times before the Bearkats took over the lead.
SET 5 | Portland and Sam Houston went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Pilots took set five 15-9 and the match. The Pilots scored first and never trailed in set five to secure the victory. Portland ended on a high note, opening its biggest lead of the stanza, six points, to close out the set. Portland also supplemented their offense with four aces in the final set.
