Chengdu, China — Laura Pellicoro wins her second World University Games title in the women's 1500 meter event, running a time of 4:15.82. Pellicoro's double victory made her the only athlete in the meet to win more than one event, male or female.Â
Similar to her 800 meter victory, Pellicoro had to fight down the home stretch to earn her 1500 meter title. In a dead sprint finish with Vera Hoffmann from Luxembourg, Pellicoro came out on top finishing in 4:15.82 to Hoffmann's 4:16.47. The pie was able to gap third place finisher Silan Ayyildiz who would finish in 4:17.26. The second and third place finishers are ranked 45th and 86th in the world, respectively, for the 2023 outdoor track season in the 1500 meter discipline.Â
"Another amazing win for Laura!" Said coach Ian Solof. "She ran with incredible composure and confidence. I think her last lap was right around 60 seconds. She has really elevated herself to a new level, and I'm so excited for her future."Â
With the world university games completed, the Pilots will shift their focus toward cross country season, which starts on Sept. 1st, 2023 at the Linfield Opener in McMinnville, Ore.Â
