MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Pilot Women's Cross Country finish fourth overall at the Roy Griak Invitational, led by a seventh place finish overall by Pilot All-American, Laura Pellicoro (21:12.5). 

 

The Pilot women were aggressive from the beginning of the race, establishing themselves within the top five of the race from the first mile split. The Pilots moved up to as high up as third as a team during portions of the race, heavily influenced by strong runs from Pilot newcomers Maebh Richardson (21:43.1) who finished 18th overall and Janelle Avilez (21:56.5) who finished 27th. Richardson was content to sit back during early stages of the race, not showing up as a Pilot scorer until around the 5,000 meter mark. Richardson passed a total of 32 athletes between the mile mark and the 6,000 meter finish, the most of any Pilot on the day. Avilez put herself in the action early, holding a strong position throughout the race before ultimately finishing 28th. 

 

Following closely behind Avilez was Mie Nielsen who ran 21:57.8 to finish 30th as the Pilot's fourth scorer. The scoring five was closed out by a strong finish from Teresa Perez who finished one spot behind Nielsen in 31st in a time of 22:00.4. 

 

The strong showing by the Pilot women continued beyond the scoring five with Courtney Klatt finishing 32nd in 22:00.5, Sam Prusse in 40th with 22:05.1 and Tianha Woodger finishing 69th in 22:42.8. Full individual results and team results will be posted below.
