SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots took the first set, but couldn't hold on and lost 3-1 (25-22, 9-25, 18-25, 13-25) to the San Diego Toreros Thursday on the road at Jenny Craig Pavilion. The loss dropped Portland's record to 10-7 overall and 3-4 in WCC action.
The Pilots were led by a double-double from Maui Robins, who registered 10 kills and 13 digs on the day. Elin Larsson also added nine kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Tinoa Woodward-Hart chipped in for with 15 digs to go with four blocks from Nevaeh Bray.

» Taina Kaauwai had a match-high four aces in the loss.
» Maui Robins registered a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. It's her sixth of the season.
» Maui Robins had a team-high 10 kills for Portland.
» Portland got a team-high 15 digs from Tinoa Woodward-Hart.
» Portland attackers were helped by a team-high 21 assists from Havannah Hoeft.
» This is the first time the Pilots have registered a set win against the Toreros since the 2020-21 season.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Pilots persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-22 in a set that featured four lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the set. Portland got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six San Diego attacks.
SET 2 | Portland then dropped the second set 25-9, evening the match at a set apiece. San Diego grabbed the advantage early, with the Pilots battling but failing to make a dent in the lead.
SET 3 | The Pilots then lost the third set to fall behind in the match. Despite pinpoint serving, including five aces, the Pilots lost the set 25-18.
SET 4 | Portland lost set four and the match, falling 25-13. The Pilots fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set.
