SEATTLE, Wash. – Maxim Groysman and Nikola Keremedchiev have advanced to the ITA Northwest Regional Championship Round of 32 singles following Friday action at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Groysman defeated Seattle U's Filip Stipic in a marathon three-setter by a 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 margin. He fought off a match point in the second set and then outlasted Stipic in the longest match of the tournament. He moves on to face Stanford's Max Basing on Saturday.

Keremedchiev took down Timofey Stepanov of California 6-3, 7-6 and will now face Washington's Nedim Suko in the Round of 32.

Cade Fernando defeated Seattle U's Michael Frank in Thursday's qualifying in straight sets and then pushed Pacific's Ran Amar in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 defeat on Friday. Pilot sophomore Stefan Skobelev drew a tough opening round match and fell to seeded Tiago Silva of Pacific, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

"Overall, I think we had a very good day," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "Nikola and Cade probably played their best matches as Pilots today. Nikola came out with a big win against the guy from Cal who is a great player. His level stayed really high throughout, which was awesome. Cade also really stepped up but lost to an experienced Pacific player in the third set.

"Max got through today by any means necessary. He saved a match point in the second set and ended up winning probably the most entertaining match of the tournament. Nikola and Max advance to the next round in the main draw singles and all of our doubles teams begin play in the afternoon tomorrow. It is great competition here and forcing us to raise our level, which is great."
