INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – All-Region honorees Matt Strangio and Laura Pellicoro have earned spots at the NCAA Cross Country Championships as top-four finishers at Regionals who are not part of an automatic-qualifying team.
Strangio led the Pilots with an outstanding second-place finish, completing the race in 29:08.4. Among individual runners without automatic team qualifications, his finish was second overall. This marks Strangio's second consecutive Nationals appearance, following a strong debut last year where he placed 76th—an impressive achievement for a first-time competitor at the NCAA Championships. Notably, this is the 22nd time since 2001 that the Pilot men have had at least one individual qualifier for Nationals.
In the women's division, Pellicoro finished eighth with a time of 19:42.5, ranking third among individual runners without automatic team qualifications. This marks her third consecutive appearance at Nationals. In 2022, she earned All-American honors with a 15th-place finish, and in 2023, she placed 41st, just one spot away from the All-American top 40.
The NCAA National Championships are on Nov. 23 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Verona, Wis. For more information on the NCAA Championships, as well as results from the NCAA West Regional Championships, visit PortlandPilots.com.
