MORAGA, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots took the first set, but couldn't hang on and fell in four sets (25-12, 17-25, 19-25, 14-25) to the Saint Mary's Gaels Wednesday on the road at UCU Pavilion. The loss dropped Portland's record to 12-15 overall and 5-12 in WCC action.
The Pilots offense was paced by Elin Larsson, who finished with 13 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .393. Portland got nine digs from Tinoa Woodward-Hart along with six blocks from Taina Kaauwai to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Pilots won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-12. Portland opened up its biggest lead, 13 points, to close out the set, totaling 17 kills with a .708 attack percentage without registering an attack error along the way.
SET 2 | Portland then dropped the second set 25-17, evening the match at a set apiece. Portland trailed as Saint Mary's grabbed the advantage midway through a set that was tied up four times before the Gaels took over the lead.
SET 3 | Portland fell again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Pilots fell in a tough set 25-19. Portland knotted up the set six times before Saint Mary's grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17.
SET 4 | Portland lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-14. Portland wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up four times before the Gaels took over.
The Pilots will conclude their season facing the Pacific Tigers in Stockton, Calif on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 12:00 p.m.
