PORTLAND, Ore. -- Emme Shearer secured a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Pilots to an 84-71 win over the Pacific Tigers. The win keeps Portland's historic 13-0 start alive.
The Pilots (13-0, 2-0) had four players score in double figures, led by Shearer, who put together a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Maisie Burnham added 13 points and Trista Hull and Dyani Ananiev chipped in as well with 11 points.
The Portland defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 26 Pacific turnovers adding 11 steals. Those takeaways turned into 27 points on the offensive end of the floor. Alexis Mark's four steals led the way individually for the Pilots.
How It Happened
The Pilots and Tigers played a back-and-forth first quarter, with neither team able to get a clear edge on offense.. The Pilots grabbed the lead, entering the quarter break with a 16-13 advantage. Portland did most of their first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of their 16 points close to the basket.
Portland built that first quarter lead to 30-20 before going on a 7-0 run at just under three minutes in the second quarter to increase its lead to 37-20. The Pilots enjoyed a 43-27 advantage heading into halftime.
The Pilots put together an 8-0 run, punctuated by a fastbreak layup right at the buzzer to make it 65-51 Portland. The Pilots kept their lead intact throughout the fourth, fending off the Tigers to win 84-71.
