SPOKANE, Wash. – Laura Pellicoro set a new University of Portland program record in the 800-meter run and the Pilot men were dominant in the Indoor Mile and 3,000-meter events as the MPSF Championships concluded Monday at The Podium.
Pellicoro cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 2:05.01, eclipsing the previous program record of 2:05.41 set by Cori Moore in 2010. Teresa Perez ran a season-best time of 2:10.92 in the same event to finish third.
Marlee Cavitt, who broke the school's 60-meter (7.44) and 200-meter (24.06) records on Sunday, placed third in the 60-meter finals on Monday with a time of 7.46.
The Pilot men took the top two spots in the Indoor Mile courtesy of race winner Ahmed Sado (4:13.81) and runner-up finisher Nate Lantz (4:15.45). The 3,000-meter run had Portland take the top four spots. Daniel Abdala (8:25.68) crossed first followed by Jona Bodirsky (8:25.90), Jonas Gertsen (8:25.90) and Daniel Racle (8:25.95).
Aidan Fitzgerald placed second in the 800-meters with a time of 1:51.54, while Yutaka Roberts (1:52.54) came in fourth place.
The indoor track season concludes at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for March 8-9 in Boston, Mass. at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The official participant list will be announced on Tuesday night, but the Pilots are expected to be represented in the men's 3,000-meter run by Matt Strangio.
