PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots struggled to bring home runs and slow down the No. 2 Oregon State Beavers' offense, leaving 12 on base in a 14-3 defeat at the hands of the Beavs on Tuesday. Morgan Codron (1-1) got the ball to start for Portland (10-8) and took the loss.
How it Happened
The Pilots were trailing 1-0 after a leadoff homer from Travis Bazzana. In the second inning Portland first put runs on the board. Portland scored thanks to Jonas Salk's RBI double to tie things up.
The Beavers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the third inning, when the Pilots got back on the scoreboard. Jake Holcroft came across to score the lone run of the inning for Portland off a wild pitch, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Beavers.
The bats were effective, who rushed out to a 12-2 lead with three home runs during that stretch. The Pilots scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Justin Ramirez to get their final run of the game in the sixth. Oregon State added two runs to their tally on the way to a 14-3 final.
