PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Pilots right-hander Nick Brink threw a complete-game shutout on Friday, becoming the first Pilot to throw a complete-game shutout since 2019 as the Pilots won 4-0 against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers.
Brink (5-1) went the distance for Portland (15-8), giving up two hits, walking none and striking out 12. His 12 strikeouts were a career high as well as the most strikeouts a Pilot has thrown without a walk since 2021.
In the batter's box, the Pilots were paced by sophomore Jonas Salk, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Jake Holcroft compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Evan Scavotto also chipped in for Portland, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
How it Happened
The Pilots took the lead for good early in the second inning. Christian Cooney's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Portland, with another run coming in on a sacrifice fly.
The Pilots continued to dominate defensively, holding the Mount without any hits after the first inning and recording 26 straight outs. Portland also added runs in the seventh and eighth innings on the way to the 4-0 victory, with both runs coming off RBI singles.

» Brink tossed a two-hit complete-game shutout for the Pilots. He's the first Pilot to record a complete-game shutout since 2019.
» Brink struck out 12 Mountaineers hitters, a career high. It's also the most strikeouts a Pilot has thrown without a walk since 2021.
