SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Portland Pilots Women's Basketball had three players earn All-WCC honors on Tuesday, with Emme Shearer making the All-WCC First Team, Maisie Burnham making the All-WCC Second Team and Dyani Ananiev made the All-WCC Freshman Team.
This is the first time that Shearer has earned All-WCC First Team honors and the fifth year in a row a Pilot has made the first team, the longest streak since between 2006-07 season and the 2010-11 season. Shearer was the leading scorer for the Pilots at 12.1 points along with 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Her steals average and total (70) led the WCC as well. She is the 19
th Pilot in program history to record 70 steals in a season and the first since Kate Andersen in the 2019-20 season. She also became the 32
nd Pilot to eclipse 1,000 points in a career.
This is the second year in a row that Burnham has earned All-WCC honors and the second year she's made the second team. Burnham was second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career. She was 11
th conference-wise in steals per game (1.47) and 17
th in points. She had a team-high 22 games with at least 10 points scored.
Ananiev is the first freshman to make the All-WCC Freshman Team since Shearer herself. Ananiev averaged 8.4 points and 1.46 steals in her first season on The Bluff, the highest scoring average since Alex Fowler in the 2019-20 season. Ananiev was one of just two players in the WCC to rank in the top 12 in both steals and blocks per game as well. Ananiev also knocked down a team-high 48 3-pointers this year.
The Pilots went 18-12 this season and 10-6 in WCC play to lock in the 3-seed for the 2024 WCC Women's Basketball Tournament. It's the third year in a row the Pilots have won at least 18 games, and it marks the first time since a stretch between 1995 and 1998 where the Pilots have won at least 18 games in a year. This is also the first time they've had back-to-back seasons with at least 10 wins in conference play since they did so in 1995-96 and 1996-97.
With the 3-seed in the tournament, the Pilots will take on the winner of the 6-seed and 7-seed matchup between the Saint Mary's Gaels and the LMU Lions. The Pilots play on Saturday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Orleans Arena. Stay tuned to PortlandPilots.com for more information.
