DAVIS, Calif. – The Portland men's tennis team earned a 4-2 road victory against the UC Davis Aggies Friday afternoon at Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Pilots improved to 9-5 overall, while the Aggies fall to 10-7.

Portland secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Luka Vukovic and Nikolas Tvedt beat Ivan Savkin and Ryan Torres 6-4 and Oscar Brown and Stefan Skobelev also picked up a 6-4 win against Eduardo Gonzalez and Sam De Vries.

Maxim Groysman cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win against De Vries at No. 4 singles and Nicolas Ocana beat Torres 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Nikola Keremedchiev provided the match clinching point with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 defeat of Lucas Bollinger at No. 5 singles. Vukovic was leading 6-4, 5-5 when the overall match was clinched.

"On paper, and probably in reality, that was our best win of the season," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "UC Davis is a well-coached team and tough to beat on their home court. Our doubles play was solid today, which I haven't said very often this season, and Ocana was a rockstar. He came through big-time and Luka competed his butt off to keep the pressure on their team as we were able to finish it off. I was worried we might not be able to get one of these benchmark wins on the road this year with the tough teams we still have coming up, but today felt really good to get one of those."

Portland stays on the road and returns to West Coast Conference play with a Saturday match at Pacific at 2 p.m.
