PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team picked up a 4-1 win against the LMU Lions in a crucial West Coast Conference match Saturday at Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in WCC action, while the Lions drop to 7-10 and 2-3 in league.

Portland started strong by securing the doubles point. Rimona Rouf and Alaia Rubio Perez won 6-3 against Anastasia Bozova and Romane Longueville at No. 3 doubles and then Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge clinched with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot over Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik and Isabella Tcherkes-Zade. Portland's No. 2 tandem of Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Rose Watanabe were leading 5-3 when the match was abandoned.

Zelic then was dominant at the top of the singles lineup with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Rogozinska-Dzik, followed shortly thereafter by Pethybridge who beat Tcherkes-Zade 7-5, 6-2.

LMU picked up a point at No. 3 singles courtesy of Carlota Molina and were leading at the No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions when Rouf secured the win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Fiona Arrese at No. 5 singles.

Portland will be back in action next weekend to host a pair of nationally-ranked WCC opponents. The Pilots welcome No. 3 Pepperdine on Saturday and then No. 21 San Diego on Sunday. Both matches are slated for 10 a.m. starts.
