SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second time this year, Portland Pilots right-handed pitcher Sam Stuhr was named the WCC Pitcher of the Week. It's the fifth time a Pilot has been named pitcher of the week, the most of any WCC team.
Stuhr was incredible in Portland's 4-2 win over the Pacific Tigers on Sunday. Stuhr had a career game, throwing seven innings with just one unearned run and four hits allowed and 13 strikeouts. His strikeout total was a career high and the most thrown by any WCC player this season.
Stuhr has been stellar in his first year on The Bluff. He's posted a 2-1 record with a 3.89 ERA in eight starts this season with 65 strikeouts. He trails just teammate Nick Brink in strikeouts conference-wise and has 18 more than the next closest WCC pitcher. His total ranks 12
th in the nation as well, and his 14.04 strikeouts per nine innings is first in the WCC and 19
th nationally.
The Pilots have had a strong 2024 season so far, posting a 20-9 record overall and a perfect 6-0 WCC record. It's the second year in a row the Pilots have started perfect through their first two WCC series and the fastest they've reached 20 wins since 2010. They are the only WCC team without a loss in conference play and have won 10 of their last 11 games.
The Pilots are back in action tomorrow, April 9 with a showdown against the No. 5 Oregon State Beavers down in Corvallis. First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
