SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Two Portland Pilots have been named to the 2024 WCC All-Academic Team for baseball, with starting pitchers Nick Brink and Carter Gaston each making the team.
This is the second year in a row that Brink, a computer science major boasting a 3.95 cumulative GPA, has made the team. Brink has dominated both in the classroom and on the mound, posting a 9-4 record on the year with a 3.35 ERA and 117 strikeouts. Gaston, meanwhile, has been a revelation on the mound for Portland. He sits at 11-1 on the year with a 2.38 ERA and 63 strikeouts. No pitcher in Pilot history has ever posted more wins than him in a single season, and his total leads the conference and ranks third nationally. He is one of just three pitchers in the WCC to have thrown a complete game this year, throwing a complete-game shutout this past weekend. Gaston also leads the conference in ERA and ranks 12

They posted a 35-17 overall record for their highest win total since 1980 and a 19-5 conference record, their highest ever in WCC play and their best in any conference also since 1980. This is the third straight year they've made the tournament after previously not having ever made the tournament.
The WCC Tournament down in Las Vegas is up next for Portland, with their first game set for Thursday, May 23 at 7:05 p.m. The Pilots will play the highest advancing seed from Wednesday's contests. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
