EUGENE, Ore. – Portland junior Estanis Ruiz begins his pursuit for a NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase with Wednesday night's semifinals scheduled for 5:02 p.m. at Hayward Field. The event will be televised on ESPN2 along with
live video and
live results coverage.
Ruiz qualified for nationals after posting the fifth fastest 3,000-meter Steeplechase time in school history at the NCAA Division I Track and Field West First Round at Arkansas two weeks ago. His time of 8:38.38 was second best at the meet.
Ruiz becomes the 64th Pilot to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 1992 as Portland has been represented at 31 of the last 32 national meets. He is the 13th runner on The Bluff to qualify in the Steeplechase and first since Riley Osen in 2018.
Portland has had 35 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field All-Americans in program history with the last coming in 2018.
Wednesday's semifinals features two heats of 12 runners with the top five from each heat and next two best times qualifying for Friday's finals, scheduled for 6:24 p.m.
