SEATTLE, Wash. — The Portland Pilots started strong with a first-set win 25-23 but couldn't maintain their momentum, ultimately falling to the Huskies' dynamic offense in the following sets 14-25, 14-25 and 13-25.
"Very proud of our squad for how we competed against the Huskies yesterday," Portland head coach Meg Burton said. "We played a bunch of different lineups and got to see a lot of different faces compete for us against a very good UW squad. Now we know where we're at in our training and what we need to work on going into the start of next week's pre-season matches. I told our team to come out, be confident and play hard and we did just that. Looking forward to coming back into the gym on Monday and taking what we learned tonight to keep getting better."
The Pilots open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 30 in Florida at the Bethune-Cookman Bash at the Beach. They'll take on both Stetson and Bethune-Cookman that day, playing Stetson at 7 a.m. and Bethune-Cookman at 3:30 p.m. (all times PT).
