PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots were dominant in their 7-0 shutout win over the George Fox Bruins on Monday, putting on a stellar show at Merlo Field. The win boosted Portland's record to 5-2-2 overall.
Brooke Miller led all scorers with a hat trick on the night, the first hat trick since Taryn Ries scored one in the Covid-shortened 2020-21 season. Hailey Still added two goals of her own -- her second multi-goal game of the year -- while Taylor Norman and Ruby Settle each scored their first goals of the year.
How it Happened
Still had the first goal of the night for Portland in the seventh minute, knocking in a header off the corner for Portland. Isabella Yakel had the assist on the goal.
Settle's goal came next, coming in the 11th minute. Jillian McBride made a slick move to the endline before crossing it back to the middle to Settle, who put it right through.
Miller scored her first goal of the night in the 13th minute. Settle played a long ball forward that Miller caught up to, making a move before sending it into the back of the net.
Miller's second goal came courtesy of a cross from Kyah Zurek in the 22nd minute. Zurek sent it flying across the box to Miller, who knocked it in briefly after a move. The goal gave Portland a 4-0 lead.
The Pilots closed out the scoring in the first half when Taylor Norman scored her first goal as a Pilot. Yakel played a short pass to Norman, who launched it from outside the box into the goal in the 26th minute.
No scoring would occur again until the 76th minute. Still scored off a header in the box once again thanks to a stellar cross from Nina Rhode.
The scoring ended with a goal from Miller. In the 83rd minute, Miller put it away with a quick move and knocked it into the back of the net for a score. Zurek earned the assist on the play.
