DENVER, Colo. -- The Porltand Pilots went to Denver and battled one of the best teams in the country to earn a result on Thursday, playing the No. 3/1 Denver Pioneers to a 0-0 draw. The draw moved Portland's record to 2-3-2 overall.
No scoring happened on the night, but Miguel-Angel Hernandez shined in goal for Portland, collecting 10 saves. It's the most any Pilot has posted in a match since 2022.
How it Happened
Portland totaled six shots in the scoreless tie, two of them on goal. The Pilots faced 21 Denver shots, 11 of them on goal. The Pilot defense held strong all throughout the match, with Hernandez playing stellar defense between the sticks and the rest of the back line helping wherever possible. Their play helped Portland earn their first regular season unbeaten result against a team ranked in at least the top three in the nation in the Nick Carlin-Voigt era and for the first time since 2006.
Game Notes
- Hernandez piled up 10 saves for the Pilots out of 21 total Pioneers shots. His save total is the most by any Pilot since 2022.
- Hernandez is just the third Pilot to record 10 saves in a match since 2010.
- This is Portland's first regular season unbeaten result against a team ranked at least in the top three of both major polls in the Nick Carlin-Voigt era and the first time since 2006, when they played No. 3 New Mexico to a scoreless draw.
