PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots and Sacramento State Hornets played to a 1-1 tie Friday at Merlo Field. The draw moved Portland's record to 2-4-3 overall.
Joe Highfield scored the goal for the Pilots, his second of the year. Sean Battistessa tied things up for the Hornets to earn a draw.
Tonight also saw Pilot Nation celebrating the Class of 2024 being inducted into the University of Portland Athletics Hall of Fame. The class features Lucia Butkovska (women's tennis), Kory Casto (baseball), Michelle Enyeart (women's soccer), Pooh Jeter (men's basketball), David Kinsella (men's track/cross country), Tansey Lystad Hensley (women's track/cross country), Megan Rapinoe (women's soccer), Angie Woznuk Kerr (women's soccer) and Dr. Robert Duff (meritorious). The class was honored at halftime..
How it Happened
Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead when Joe Highfield notched his second goal of the season in the 13th minute, assisted by Wylie Trujillo and Diego Rosas. Highfield corralled the ball in the box off the pass from Trujillo and put it in the back of the net.
The Hornets evened the game on a goal from Sean Battistessa in the 58th minute, assisted by goalkeeper Lucas Bost. Bost sent it flying through the air to Battistessa, who chipped it in for the score. The game ended at 1-1.
